We recommend starting your fittings 2-4 months before the wedding. Shorter time frames can be accommodated for an additional rush fee. If you are doing a portrait session at an earlier date you will need to treat this as your event date.
Bridal alterations typically cost between $500 and $900 total including all fitting sessions. For bridesmaid, mother of the bride and evening gowns, alterations typically cost between $75 to $350 total including all fitting sessions. Exact pricing is determined at the first fitting where a 50% deposit is due. Remaining balance is due upon completion. All forms of payment are accepted.
A fitting fee is worked into the alterations estimate to cover our time for the initial fitting. If you choose not to proceed with alterations after the dress has been pinned, you will still be charged the $75 fitting fee for our time. If you have a heavily beaded dress, we charge an additional small fee to accommodate the extra time to carefully remove and replace beads during the alterations. Rush fees will apply to dresses with a one-month turnaround time. Fee pricing depends on the timeframe and amount of alterations needed.
The only thing you need to bring to the first fitting (aside from your dress) are your wedding day shoes. If you don’t have your shoes by the date of your fitting, no need to reschedule, we usually start working on the bodice first and can tackle the hem at the second fitting once you have your shoes.
If you have a train on your dress, you will need a bustle. The bustle is a method of pulling up the train so that it is out of the way for the reception. Usually tied up with ribbons or buttons, we try to make the best bustle to go with the dress. Our goal is that you like the train bustled up just as much as when it is down. We suggest bringing someone to the final fitting to learn how to do the bustle.
We understand things happen. Therefore, we do offer emergency or onsite alterations within the Charleston Tri-County area. Keep in mind you are required to book up to 2 hours.
It is great to bring your veil to at least one of the fittings so that you can see it with the dress. If you are doing a hair and makeup trial, we often suggest coordinating a fitting with that so that you can see the whole look together. Don’t have a veil? We have a variety of options to choose from and can also make a custom designed veil if you have something specific in mind. Since we make them in house, we can always accommodate rush orders.
We will work hard to get your dress finished and ready for you to pick up early if need be. Final fittings for weddings happening during this time WILL take priority over ones that are scheduled further out.

When you get your dress altered at KEDS we will steam the dress before it gets picked up free of charge. If you had your dress altered somewhere else and need it steamed we can help you with that as well. Pricing for steaming is dependent on the gown and we also offer on site services for an additional fee.

We are not currently taking custom gown orders. We do not sell gowns but work with the top bridal gown shops in town and would be happy to recommend them to you based on your needs and budget. With that in mind we can customize any gown you buy and also make and sell accessories including veils, belts, boleros, and overskirts.
